Clearing YouTube Content ID Claims with AdRev Containing an AdKey

Content ID (CID) is YouTube’s digital fingerprinting system that many Pond5 artists and other rights holders use to easily identify and manage their copyrighted music. CID is a useful rights management tool that protects both Pond5 customers and artists from infringement.

Pond5 is excited to be partnering with AdRev, one of the largest administrators in the ContentID space, to provide a simple solution for CID claim removals. When you license one of the over 140,000 AdRev registered music tracks on Pond5, you will be given a unique alphanumeric code (“license key”) on your email receipt:

If you are uploading to YouTube, include the full license key (including “AdKey:”) in either the description or tags of your video, set your video to either Unlisted, Premiere, or Public (not Private or Scheduled) and AdRev will detect the license key and release any claims on your video within minutes, allowing you to monetize without issue. When done properly, you will receive email confirmation from YouTube that a claim has been successfully released.

How to Avoid Demonetization

While it is almost never something to worry about, it can be frustrating when you receive a Content ID claim, especially if you are planning on monetizing your video. In order to prevent demonetization moving forward, Pond5 suggests uploaders initially publish their videos as "Unlisted" as opposed to “Public.” By taking this step you are ensuring that if you do receive a claim, you should be able to resolve it before missing out on any monetization opportunities.

Being able to monetize your video during the first 48 hours after upload is critical, so we want to make sure you avoid losing out during this time period when most views occur. Once any claims have been resolved, you can update your video to “Public” with the understanding that you will not receive any additional claims in the future.
