4K UHD Downsize to 1080 HD

S’abonner

With 4K UHD becoming more popular many artists have bought the cameras to submit. Problem is most buyers do not need nor want 4K but need 1920x1080 HD.

Downsize 4K UHD to 1920x1080 HD automatically. If this is not done buyers will go to the other agencies that currently already downsize.

Allow artists to set their own prices on 4K UHD and downsized 1080 HD.

Me personally, do not want downsizing below HD. Just 4K to HD only.

That's a great suggestion Don, thanks! I'll pass that along. :)

Would be really useful and save on duplicating uploads, albeit in different frame sizes. Also agree 4k and HD only, no point working with web sizes

I already contacted Pond5 and told them about this. I am not going through extra steps for uploading 4K. Time is gold when you are nobody's exclusive. When Pond5 resizes automatically I will gladly submit my 4k. In the meanwhile, I already have 200 4k files in competitor and those same files in HD here. Problem is that since I am constantly working, I won't go back on those files....

Everyone makes good points, and it's obvious that this is something we're going to have to start doing in order to be competitive. Rest assured, we're listening. But at this very moment, I don't have any news to share. Thanks everyone!

Agree 100%. Until this happens I won't be going near 4K. It is hard enough for me to keep up with just HD let alone having to make two versions.

An interim solution to the above suggestion:
Please give us a way to quickly group our uploaded 4K and 1080P files together as one clip.

    @Ben Rickert,

That's actually how the system is set up now. We automatically associate your 4K videos with their 1080 counterparts, so both versions show up on both item pages.

Jonathan - Excellent! Glad to hear it and thanks for clarifying. Is this something the curator does, or is it based on file name? So far, I've been naming them with different extensions (i.e., "Man Playing Cards 1080P" or Man Playing Cards 4K"). If this messes it up or makes it more difficult for you, I can drop those extensions. Just let us know the best way to prep each clip for you.

  • Avatar

I believe it's a combination of the two, which is to say that the system helps the curators make that happen.

Your naming conventions look good to me, so I don't believe that would be a problem.

Take a look at our video upload specifications page for all the details.

If you end up with 4K and 1080 versions that AREN'T associated, just drop customer service a line and we'll make sure the get associated. :)

If this grouping of 4K and 1080 clips is supposed to be "automatic," I must be doing something wrong. I still have to contact support to file and association request. While they are quick to respond, I think this is too tedious on BOTH producers and Pond5's parts. As a result, I rarely do 1080p versions of my 4K uploads.

Thanks for reporting that James. I'll make sure the team knows that that's going on.

Please P5, now when the GH4 and other cameras has made 4K kind of common, you really need to prioritise this.

I agree with all my colleques saying. Yes Please do it. Something new happend last 8-2 months? Im uploading more like 400 4K Clips next days, allready doing it, but downsize them and uploading them again? Pain!

i agree, it's too much effort to create and upload 4k and hd versions seperately - please support us with this feature. and if this feature is implemented, also already uploaded 4k clips should be resized and offered (for a little lower price) automatically. thx

  • Avatar

The feature is allready there! Sure not on that date the thread started, but I get a notice of someone supporting that here...now you know - the feature is there! :)
